Soccer!

I have not been a good blogger. It’s not that I don’t have the material. I blame it on soccer. Because we pretty much eat, drink and sleep soccer (or however that saying goes). Here’s what are typical week looks like.
Monday – Open

Tuesday – Tutoring for Matthew 3-3:30

Wednesday - Open

Thursday – Michael’s soccer practice 5:30pm-7pm

Friday – Matthew’s soccer practice from 5-6, Michael’s soccer practice from 5:30-7

Saturday – Soccer games for both boys, Michael’s practice at 11:30

Sunday – Michaels’ Academy soccer game

But, wait it gets better. Matthew now is signed up for basketball camp, so the Mondays and Wednesdays that are so gloriously open? Not so much anymore.

Monday – Matthew’s basketball camp 5:30-6:15

Tuesday – Tutoring for Matthew 3-3:30

Wednesday - Matthew’s basketball camp 5:30-6:15

Thursday – Michael’s soccer practice 5:30pm-7pm

Friday – Matthew’s soccer practice from 5-6, Michael’s soccer practice from 5:30-7

Saturday – Soccer games for both boys, Michael’s practice at 11:30

Sunday – Michaels’ Academy soccer game

So you can see why blogging has taken quite a blow. I have great material coming up that I’m hoping to be able to chronicle regularly. In fact, I will make it a point to make time for.

Happy Trails!

Michael has a biography report today and I’m probably more nervous for him then he is. He chose to write his report about Roy Rogers, which is great because know I can get a costume together pretty easily. In addition to the written report, Michael also has to do an oral report and he has been working so hard to be ready for today. He’s been practicing with Sarah everyday and we practiced again this morning. We made sure that he does not mumble and have eye contact with his audience. I hope he remembers because I want him to do well. He’s been practicing so hard. Unfortunately, I will miss his presentation because it’s right in the middle a workday, but M will be able to go. Yay! It will be a special treat for Michael because M has not been able to participate much because of his travel schedule.

The costume turned out to be pretty nice if I do say so myself. My plan was to dress him in a shirt and some jeans with a bandana and a straw cowboy hat. Then I started to pull up images of Roy Rogers and decided that it would not be difficult to embellish his plain white shirt with some fringes and glitter. Well, that was before being stuck in traffic after work for 3 hours yesterday! Thank goodness my brother was here to help, sort of. At least he tried. We went to Michael’s to find some fringe, but no luck. I decided to make the fringes out of felt sheets. I cut up the felt into strips and attached the it to the shirt using hot glue gun. Love the hot glue gun. It has rescued me from poor planning several times. I added little curls using glitter glue to give it a little pizzazza

Checking In

It's been a heck of a couple of weeks!  Mainly because it's been crazy busy at work and I have not really had time to post anything.  Last week, the kids did not have school because of the snow/ice/sleet storm that we had.  It was fun at first and then it was not so fun anymore.  I couldn't get to work for 3 days, so I was working from home, which was a little more stressful than being able to go into the office.  It would have been fine had I not been so swamped with "tax season."

Anyway, the snow is now gone, but we are expected to get another dose tomight and tomorrow.  School is not yet cancelled but I would not be surprised if it is tomorrow morning.  At least this time, the newspeople are saying that it will only last a day, which is more like TX weather.

Tonight, Matthew had a soccer game.  He was not interested in participating at all.  He played goalie and did very well for the first half, but the rest of the game was not so good.  He's just not interested in soccer.

While he ws playing he lost his 2nd tooth! I saw him hand something to his coach but didnt know what it was until after the game whenhe gave me the tooth.  I'm sure Coach Joaquin was very excited about holding on to the tooth for me!

I'm so excited that my parents are coming to visit over Spring Break!  I just hope work slows down a bit so I can take some time off to enjoy their visit.  March will be nice for them.  They've always visited when it's freezing cold or stifling hot so this will be a nice break for them.  I'm planning on having Michael's birthday party while they are here.  I've only got a month to plan so I better get going!

Things My Boys Say

I just want to record a few thing the boys said in the past couple of days that I don’t want to forget.

Matthew
After he lost his first tooth-
“I can’t believe the Tooth Fairy gave me $20 for a tiny little tooth.”

Monday morning when we were waiting for the bus and Michael was walking on the ice-covered retaining wall-
“Michael, don’t do that. You’ll fall and have to go to the doctor and then I won’t have anyone to play with.”

Yesterday
“Mom, you are not going to be happy. I got a frowny today in my folder.”
Me: What did you do?
Matthew: It’s not my fault. Preston made me talk when we were supposed to be reading.”

Michael
He was playing upstairs yesterday, he came down pouting. I asked him what’s wrong and he said, “Everyone is disrespecting me and talking while I’m trying to play.”

Yesterday, I asked him to pick his shoes up and put them in the laundry room for the next morning. With some whining he does and says, “all the things I do for this house!”

This morning, we only had enough Cocoa Pebbles for one person so I suggest that they split it and mix in some Cheerios. At first, Michael was opposed to it because he said dad told him he can have the last of the Cocoa Pebbles. Then he changed his mind and said to Matthew, “Fine, but don’t expect me to be this nice to you when you lose your baby fat!”

Snow

Wow, what a weekend. The best way to describe this weekend is eventful. Some good, some not so good. Saturday, Michael and I started our morning early. We went to Barnes and Noble to pick him up a couple of new books because he received the “Dragon” for doing a great job and staying “above task” at school. He was so proud and I’m so proud. We’ve come a long way from the beginning of the school year when we had a “special” conference with his teacher about looking into the possibility of him having ADHD.

Then we headed to Starbucks to get him a hot chocolate. It was very nice to have our one-on-one time. I don’t remember what we talked about, but I remember being very happy to just be with him and have him answer my questions with more than an “I don’t know.” I think I will make this a regular thing; schedule one-on-one time with my kiddos.

After that afternoon, I went to a baby shower for a friend. She is having a baby girl and I am very happy for her. It was so nice to buy pink and be surrounded by pink. It was a small gathering and the cake was beautiful. I must remember to ask for her baker’s number.

I did not get home until close to 7pm so I was very relieved that M’s dad brought over pizza! No cooking for me.

Sunday morning was spent waiting for the snowstorm. We had plans have lunch with Heather and her family, but we decided to reschedule because we were afraid the roads might get treacherous. Weatherman said it was suppose to start at noon, so I got myself out to the grocery store for the weekly supply of lunch items early in the morning. IN.THE.FREEZING.RAIN. Those little stinkers better appreciate.

When the snow did come, it was less than we expected or predicted. It snowed for a few hours and it was really pretty, but not much stuck. It didn’t matter. I got the boys all bundled up and we went outside anyway. There was enough snow on the ground for a few snowballs and short snowball fight so the boys were happy!

Then we had to get ready for Matthew’s soccer game, if you can call it that. Let’s say they stop keeping score at 0-8. In favor of the other team. Yes, it was a very bad loss, but Matthew did not care. He was not into soccer that day.

Those were the highlights. Here are a couple of notable lowlights (for memory's sake):

1. Toilet got clogged. Found out this morning that the sewer was actually clogged so it all leaked into to flowerbeds in our front yard. YUCK! Luckily for me, M was home to clean it up. Luckily for him, plumber was able to fix everything for $60. Thank you home warranty insurance!

2. M washed Matthew’s pants that he had an accident in with other clothes so everything smelled like poop. M is still working on trying to get the smell out. NOT PRETTY.

So, I guess I can summarize this with M being in deep doo-doo! Ha, Ha…

Matthew Lost His 1st Tooth!

Matthew lost is 1st tooth!  After I gave him and Michael their breakfast this morning, I went upstairs to get ready for work.  As I’m finishing up, he shouts my name and I think, “Now what?” Then I hear, “Mom! I lost my first tooth!”  My little man was so excited.  Michael said, “it’s so tiny.  My tooth (I lost) was a big square.” He’s now in the “snaggle-tooth club” and he thinks he is such a big boy.  Michael did not lose his 1st tooth until he was 7. My little Mattikin is only 5! Why does it have to happen so soon?

Such a big boy!
