Odyssey of the Mind State 2016 - Houston

We took a little trip to Houston with Matthew last weekend for his Odyssey of the Mind State competition.  His team did great and improved so much from Regionals competition.  Unfortunately, they placed fourth and did not make it to Worlds. I was heartbroken for the  kiddos because they worked SO hard and put so much time and effort into preparing for the past 8 months.

It was a great experience though and I enjoyed spending one-on-one time with my middle.  We left Michael and Mark with the grandparents so Matthew had me and M all to himself. It's nice to have some time to focus on just him and I think he enjoyed the attention as well. It was a lot of fun.

On Friday, after I dropped Mark and Michael off at school, Matthew and I got in the car and started our road trip. We were headed off to George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston to pick up M who was flying in from a work trip and drive the rest of the way to our hotel in downtown Houston.

We made a pitstop at McDonald's in Fairfield for lunch.

After we got to our hotel and were settled in, we walked across the street to the Houston Galleria and had an early dinner at Kona Grill. The weather was perfect for outside dining!

We had some yummy rolls and this guy had TWO orders of sashimi and some rolls. Sake sashimi is one of his favorite things to eat.

After dinner, Michael dropped me off at the competition site so I can help set up and then drove Matthew to meet up with his teammates for a team meeting.  Then we headed back to our hotel to relax for the night.

We woke up bright and early and drove to the high school where the competition was being held and M helped unload our props.

Prepping for the show in the staging area....

Waiting on the judge to say "Go!"

And show time!!

M got roped into helping sell t-shirts after the kids performed.  He helped sell $4 worth of T-shirts.

That evening, we drove over to a stadium for the awards ceremony.  We were disappointed that the kids didn't advance but I couldn't be more of this boy.  He worked so hard and put so much time into this. Not one time did he complain about going to OOTM practice. Love him so much.

After the award ceremony we went back to the hotel and settled in for the night. This boy hijacked my robe the whole trip.

We go up early the next morning and drove home.  Then Houston got flooded. Yikes, good thing we left early.
